Work

About me

I'm Arpine Azatyan. I spent years performing classical music, directing ensembles, and teaching before I started designing products. Now Looking back, design feels less like a career change and more like I changed instruments.

I've always been drawn to systems: how things connect, how people move through them, what happens when something breaks.

What does tuning an instrument have to do with designing an interface?

I remember how students struggled tuning their instrument when I wasn't around (especially when everything went online). Not because they couldn't hear the problem, but because they didn't have a reliable way to fix it on their own. Giving them a tuner app and showing their parents how to use it at home seemed like a small fix, but it changed everything: the practice stopped being endless tuning and frustration and became more music making. Sometimes the best way to help someone isn't always repeating the instructions, it's changing the tool.

I still care deeply about rhythm, structure, and fine details: I just spend more time untangling complicated flows, testing ideas, and shaping interfaces that feel clear, useful, and human.

When I'm not designing, I'm still making music, roasting coffee, and enjoying a good cup. Overly ambitious DIY projects remain works in progress.
